Easy Indian Roti or Chapati recipe

The word roti in Hindi, Urdu or Punjabi refers to the type of bread used in the cuisine of India and some other Asian countries. It is versatile, easy to prepare and can be used in many dishes.

  • 300 g wholemeal flour Added to
  • 170 ml water Added to

1. Step

Mix the salt with the flour.

2. Step

Add the water little by little until the dough is smooth.

3. Step

Leave the dough to rest for 15-20 minutes.

4. Step

Divide the dough into small portions and shape each portion into balls of 6 cm in diameter.

5. Step

Roll out the dough into circles about 8.5 cm in diameter and 1 mm thick.

6. Step

Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Place a roti in the pan. Wait about 30 seconds and turn over. Wait another 30 seconds and turn the second time.

7. Step

Press lightly on the edges with a spatula to soften.

8. Step

Keep the roti in a basket covered with a tea towel while you make the other roti.
